Throughout Aurora’s history, certain fires have left an indelible mark on the community—blazes so massive and devastating that they became stories passed down through generations. Burned Into Memory explores the city’s most infamous infernos, from the destruction of the Stolp Woolen Mill to the Cottonmill Fire, the tragic Woolworth Fire, and many more. Through historical accounts, photographs, and firsthand recollections, this presentation delves into the impact these fires had on Aurora’s landscape, its people, and the lessons learned from each disaster. Presented by Tracy Duran, Board Vice President of the Aurora Regional Fire Museum.

In this DIY world, Junk Journals have reached a niche in the crafting world using ephemera and mixed media and becoming ever more popular each day. Lisa Spencer, a crafting enthusiast with her own Facebook page: Lisa's Crafting Closet, goes live twice a week showcasing various creative projects. Come join us as she leads us to create our very own Junk Journal! (all supplies will be provided-you can bring any meaningful ephemera if you'd like to incorporate it into your journal)
Freedom's Frontier: The History of the Underground Railroad in Northern Illinois

Guest presenters Eric Krupa of the St. Charles History Museum and Zachary Bishop from the Schingoethe Center of Aurora University will lead us back in time as we journey into the hidden corridors of American history and the vital role Northern Illinois played in the fight for freedom. Participants in this class will learn about secret safe houses, coded messages, and the actual stories of courageous people who boldly fought to challenge the institution of slavery. This course offers a powerful perspective on resistance, resilience and the enduring struggle for justice.

Arts in the Fox Valley: A Timeline and Portrait

Fox Valley residents have long been enthusiastic patrons of the arts. In this one-day course, local arts events organizer and marketing specialist Marissa Amoni will share her knowledge and enthusiasm with us. She will highlight historical and contemporary resources through stories, interviews with artists, and photos. Participants will learn about art leagues, studios, theatrical productions, public art commissions, film festivals, and music programs. Participants will hear about the many outdoor fairs held each summer. Course participants will enhance their awareness of the multiple opportunities available to us because we live in a region that celebrates the arts.
