Since 1893, the U.S. Senate has read George Washington’s Farewell Address aloud every year as part of our Washington’s birthday observance. Establishing the peaceful transfer of power, his address set the tone for our nation. The document teaches us a great deal about our history as well as setting out warnings for our fledgling government. Through lecture and class discussion explore this great historical document and how it still resonates today.
